Community is a series of work begun in 2013 that traces its path through installation, animation, painting and drawing. In each genre, gestures create an implication of dance -- movement and energy -- transposed against the resistance of fixed squares and rectangles of color. "Community" at the Asheville Art Museum adds to this lineage and evolution as an installation that reacts to the unique space in the museum underneath the stairwell.

This iteration is a never-ending loop of highly reflective and colorful aluminum inspired by the circular ceiling architecture of the Asheville Art Museum. Long, curling strips interact with a background of large, rectangular, mirror-like sheets and flat, colorful blocks of aluminum that together create a living/breathing environment of changing reflection, color and "bling." The angles and shapes of aluminum comprise the architecture of Community, while the flowing, loopy, aluminum dances in and among and on top of the backdrop of the piece. Tension/release is created and re-created organically depending on the angle of the viewer, reflecting forms and colors of participants in this magical new community of gesture, structure, and architecture. Community at Asheville Art Museum revels in beauty and spectacle that is both interactive and contemplative.
